FAQs
How can you make sure that my Capsule finds my future ancestors?
First, the digital media needs to be preserved and maintained - which our
archivists will do. Then anyone looking for your capsule will surely start by
searching for your name - our aim is that they will find one of the records of
your capsule either via a genealogy database, a database of library records,
through the International Time Capsule Society or on the blockchain. These
records will tell them where your capsule is held. And finally they need to be
able to access a copy of the capsule- they will be able to contact the Digital
Preservation Trust to obtain the information on how to retrieve your Time
Capsule. This information is currently published alongside the library records
online.
What is an Advance Directive? It's the opening date of your time capsule
We are building a library and libraries are by nature public. An Advance
Directive allows you to decide when your Time Capsule will be released to the
public through the library. You can choose to make your capsule publicly
available as soon as it is finished or at a future date - up to fifty years from now,
but all capsules will ultimately become public.
I don’t have high-quality equipment to record my NotForgotten Video
at home. Does that matter?
Almost all our Videos are made on smart phones, whether you film someone
else or yourself, or you are making it for someone else. The NotForgotten App
has been developed to help you make a quality Video. The biggest
challenges are (1) sound quality - so a bluetooth microphone is
recommended; and (2) stability (hold the camera steady) - we recommend
getting a tripod which you can get very cheaply online. Alternatively, hire a
NotForgottenTM videographer - a certified Videographer will come to your
home to film your professional Video, as well as do a full feature edit.
